GHK-Cu Is Having a Hair Moment but Its Potential Benefits Don’t Stop There

With over 200k inquiries in the last week alone, GHK-Cu is one of the top searched peptides on TikTok. Known for its potential to create stronger and healthier-looking hair, women as well as men apparently want to know all about it.

“More and more of our clients want to know about GHK-Cu,” ThriveX’s Clinical Director Dr. Mary Van says.

So, what exactly is GHK-Cu, and why is it getting so much attention? It starts with a naturally occurring peptide that’s already found in the human body.

What is GHK-Cu?

Also known as GHK copper, it’s a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide made up of three amino acids bound to copper.

“GHK copper is a tripeptide, so it has three amino acids bound to copper,” Dr. Van explains. “Researchers have found that it helps support tissue regeneration, including stimulating collagen and increasing blood flow, which is why it’s used to promote for both skin and hair health.”

Researchers have studied it for its role in collagen production, tissue repair and cellular health.

But its benefits may go well beyond the hair follicle.

Why it’s used to promote skin and hair health

According to researchers, GHK-Cu’s has anti-inflammatory properties, prompting interest in its potential applications for certain forms of inflammatory or autoimmune-related hair loss. More clinical research is needed to determine its effectiveness for these conditions.

But GHK-Cu’s potential doesn’t stop at the scalp.

Researchers are also studying copper peptides for their potential role in skin regeneration, wound healing and cellular turnover.

GHK-Cu may help support the body’s natural process of clearing damaged proteins and cells while promoting healthier tissue.

“Every time your cells turn over, the goal is healthier tissue while simultaneously getting rid of the damaged material,” Dr. Van explains.

From hair follicle support to collagen and cellular turnover, GHK-Cu is giving researchers plenty to investigate both on the scalp and beyond.
